Śrī Śrīman Narahari Ṭhakkurāṣṭakam

premādhāraṁ madhura-vikāraṁ,
[He is] the substrata of divine love, of sweetest eccentricity
śrī caitanyāṅghri-jalaja-sāram |
(For whom) the lotus feet of Śrī Caitanya are quintessence
śrī-khaṇḍākhye vihita-nivāsaṁ,
And whose home domain is the renowned Śrī Khaṇḍa
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||1||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

gāṅgeyāṅga-dyutim-ati-dhīraṁ,
His limbs exude a golden effulgence, and he is exceptionally grave
śrī-khaṇḍāṅkāñcita-su-śarīram |
His beautiful figure is decorated with sandalwood paste
vaktrākeśaṁ pṛthu-kaṭi-deśaṁ,
His hair is very curly, and his hips shapely
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||2||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

prītyāhvānaṁ su-lalita-gānaṁ,
His sublimely delightful singing invokes love itself
dhārā-netraṁ pulakita-gātram |
His eyes become streams, and his body becomes horripilated
nṛtyotsukya-praṇati-viśeṣaṁ,
In dancing thrills, he bows in a most unique manner
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||3||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

yasya bhrātā sadasi mukundo-
His brother Mukunda is always…
mūrcchad-dṛṣṭvā nṛpa-śikhi-puccham |
…fainting the second he sees a peacock feather
taṁ vidvāṁsaṁ su-madhura-bhāsaṁ,
He is very learned and so sweetly eloquent
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||4||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

yasyotsaṅge nihita-nijāṅgo
In whose lap, having delivered His limbs
gaurāṅgo ’bhūta pṛthu pulakāṅgaḥ |
Gaurāṅga experiences intense horripilation throughout His limbs
taṁ prāṇasvaṁ vihita-vilāsaṁ
With Him (Gaurāṅga), who is his very life, he has engaged in playful pastimes
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||5||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

yenonnīpe salila-samīpe
Because of him, the kadamba tree by the pond (Madhu Puṣkariṇī)
jātaiḥ puṣpaiḥ pratidinam-iṣṭaiḥ |
Produced flowers every day for the performance
pūjañcakre taṁ paraharṣaṁ
…of his deity worship, which was his great joy
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||6||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

cakre mattāñ-śaci-suta-bhaktān
He intoxicated the multitude of Śaci-suta’s devotees
nityānanda-prabhṛti-sametān |
Along with Nityānanda and others
mādhvīkair yo gṛha-khanijais-taṁ
By the honey-wine from the dug-out pond by his home
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||7||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

vṛndāraṇye vraja-ramaṇīnāṁ,
In Vṛndā’s forest, of the damsels of Vraja
madhye khyātā hi madhumatī yā |
among them he is known as Madhumatī
taṁ śrī-gaura-priyatam-aśeṣaṁ
He is infinitely dear to Śrī Gaura
vande śrīlaṁ narahari-dāsam ||8||
I venerate that Śrīla Narahari Dāsa

pratidinam-anukūlaṁ hy aṣṭakaṁ vaiṣṇavānāṁ
[One who] every day, in a favorable mood, this eight-fold prayer, among Vaiṣṇavas…
paripaṭhati sudhīryaḥ śraddhayedaṁ sa dhīraḥ |
Attentively reads and recites this, very slowly, with faith—that wise person
narahari-rati-pātraṁ prema-bhaktiṁ labheta
Becomes the recipient of Narahari’s rati and attains prema-bhakti
prakaṭita-yuga-mantre gauracandre svatantre ||9||
Gauracandra manifests, of His own independent will, through the yuga-mantra (?)

Śrī Rādhā-Govinda worshipped at Śrī Khaṇḍa
